Automakers Plan Electric Car Blitz as Tesla Burns Billions
It’s becoming a very crowded field… Companies want to make electric vehicles and and are lining up to compete with Tesla, who will burn through more than $10 billion before the year ends. Kevin Tynan, senior analyst with Bloomberg, says that “companies are committed to electric cars, but there is little evidence that there is a lot of consumer demand for it.” At the same time, companies like GM are losing money on every electric car they sell. Even Dyson, who specializes in manufacturing vacuum cleaners, plans on spending more than $2.7 billion to build an electric vehicle by 2020. Read More

Shift is a startup that wants to make owning a car as easy as ordering from Amazon
In a recent interview with CNBC, Shift CEO George Arison said, “our on-demand test drive is our competitive advantage… Customers want to touch, feel, smell, and drive a car before agreeing to buy it.” Shift, a virtual used-car dealership, basically wants to make car-buying easier by bringing a car for a test drive directly to a home, office, or anywhere that is most convenient for the potential buyer. The company is trying to become a one-stop shop for car-buying and maintenance and plans to break into oil and brake changes. They are currently operating in California, but have raised over $110 million from investors like BMW. Read More
