What every dealership leader should do before Q4 slips away

The final quarter gives dealership leaders one more chance to refocus a team worn down by summer. On today’s edition of CBT Live, Dave Anderson, CEO of LearnToLead, outlines a Q4 plan built on vision and accountability.

A Q4 vision built around two or three major goals can give a team renewed purpose. Leaders can name those goals, track progress and discuss them daily, turning a job into a campaign. But according to Anderson, a narrow focus matters most in a season crowded with football, elections, and new model launches.

Accountability depends on clarity, and clarity fades without hundreds of repetitions in daily conversations. Anderson said leaders often assume a message is clear after 10 repetitions and that the team is acting on it. However, bad habits from the summer take about 90 days to show up in results, so a reset can’t wait. He suggests leaders can protect their mental energy by blocking 20 uninterrupted minutes and building from there.

Additionally, Anderson recommends a zero-based review of every direct report ahead of 2027. Leaders ask whether they would hire each person today, given what they now know. A no leads to training, transferring, or terminating, in that order, because tolerating the problem is not an option.
