Stellantis recalls nearly 850,000 vehicles over backup camera glitch

Stellantis recalls 848,511 U.S. vehicles after software glitch disables rearview cameras. Fix arrives via free over-the-air update.

Stellantis recalls nearly 850,000 vehicles over backup camera glitch

On the Dash:

  • Stellantis is recalling 848,511 U.S. vehicles because radio software can hide the rearview camera image.
  • The fix arrives over the air, so most owners won’t need a dealer service appointment.
  • It’s Stellantis’ third major U.S. recall in 2026, following June and July software-related campaigns.

Stellantis North America is voluntarily recalling an estimated 848,511 U.S.-market Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles after the company reported that the radio software may prevent the rearview camera image from appearing on the media screen. While the fix will happen over the air, most affected owners won’t need a service appointment for the repair.

The recall covers several 2026 and 2027 model-year vehicles, including:

According to the automaker, owners will receive a prompt on the media screen when the update is ready. They can then accept the update without needing to visit a dealer. Stellantis has stated that it’s not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the defect.

The company is advising drivers who lose the camera image to rely on their rearview and side mirrors while reversing, as recall notices will go out by mail starting in September. Customers with questions can call 1-800-853-1403 or visit recalls.mopar.com.

This is the automaker’s third major U.S. recall of 2026. Stellantis recalled more than 1 million Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models in June over a power-steering wiring defect linked to a fire risk. A month later, the company issued a smaller recall of 2026 Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer L SUVs tied to faulty brake system software that could disable electronic stability control. This marks at least the third time in recent years that Stellantis has traced a rearview camera failure back to radio software rather than the camera hardware itself.
