On the Dash:
- Stellantis is recalling more than 1 million Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models due to a power steering wiring defect that could increase the risk of fire.
- Dealers should prepare for increased service traffic and customer inquiries as owners are advised to park vehicles outside until repairs are available.
- The automaker expects to provide a remedy by July, with affected vehicles spanning the 2021-2025 model years.
On Tuesday, Stellantis said it’s recalling more than 1 million Jeep vehicles in the U.S. due to an electrical issue that could cause fires.
The automaker is encouraging owners to park outside and away from other vehicles until the issue is resolved.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the issue stems from potential overheating of the wiring for the electric hydraulic power steering pump in certain models. Affected models include:
- Potentially 787,887 Jeep Wranglers
- Potentially 289,112 Jeep Gladiators
The NHTSA believes that roughly 245,000 additional vehicles will be subject to recalls outside of the U.S.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Stellantis said the action was taken “out of an abundance of caution,” and the automaker is working diligently to expedite a remedy to owners no later than July.
In 2023, the automaker initiated an investigation into the issues, but later closed the probe due to a low incident rate.
Separately, Chrysler is recalling roughly 17,270 Pacifica plug-in hybrid electric vehicles from 2020 to 2022, according to the NHTSA. Owners are advised not to charge their vehicles and to park them outside and away from structures until their vehicles are repaired.
