On the Dash:
- Lucid will release a software update for the Gravity SUV to fix glitches and improve features.
- The update follows critical reviews highlighting software issues.
- Leadership was reshuffled to improve accountability and speed product development.
Lucid Motors announced on Monday that it will soon issue a software update for its Gravity SUV, addressing complaints from online reviewers.
Nick Twork, Lucid’s vice president of global communications, confirmed on social media that the update will roll out “imminently.” He recently drove a “near final” version of the software and noted that while progress has been made, more work remains.
The update will allow owners to start driving immediately after unlocking with the NFC card readers without needing to reauthenticate through the center console. Additional improvements include enhanced navigation visuals, updated Tesla Supercharger compatibility, general screen improvements, and more.
The update follows reviews from Out of Spec and MKBHD, who generally had positive experiences with the all-electric SUVs but expressed frustration with software glitches.
To accelerate improvements, Lucid has reorganized its leadership structure. Former SVP of Powertrain Emah Dlala will now oversee all product development and software, aiming to increase accountability and streamline decision-making.
While addressing Gravity’s software issues, Lucid is also preparing a major expansion. It recently launched the Gravity Touring, a more affordable variant of the original Gravity. The company also plans to launch three midsize EVs built on a shared platform starting around $50,000, targeting mainstream buyers while maintaining a premium design.
Despite mounting challenges in the EV market, Lucid continues to report strong buyer interest in the Gravity SUV. The company has experienced steady test-drive traffic and rising market share, even as other automakers saw declines following the expiration of the $7,500 federal tax credit.
The software update and leadership changes indicate Lucid is prioritizing immediate product quality while laying the groundwork for long-term growth in the midsize EV segment.
