Could Escape return as an EV? Ford hasn’t confirmed reports

Ford Authority says a compact electric crossover is planned for 2029, behind the Fathom pickup, but Ford officials have not confirmed the report.

Could Escape return as an EV? Ford has not confirmed reports
On the Dash:
  • Ford Escape EV could return in 2029 on the UEV platform, according to reports by Ford Authority.
  • Ford has not confirmed the report and called it speculation.
  • Dealers have almost no Escapes left, with about 500 in stock in September.

The Ford Escape could return in 2029 as an all-electric crossover built on the company’s Universal EV platform, according to a Ford Authority report. Although the automaker hasn’t confirmed it.

A Ford spokesperson called the report speculation and told Electrek the company hasn’t announced an EV Escape or tied it to the UEV platform. Ford Authority first reported the plan in May, saying the crossover would be built at the Louisville Assembly Plant. Ford ended Escape production there in December 2025 after 25 years.

Ford feeds speculation over Escape EV

Ford’s Escape web page has fueled the speculation, since the company typically posts farewell messages for discontinued models, as it did for the Edge. But the Escape page says the SUV may be taking a breather and directs visitors to the rest of the lineup.

According to a Ford Authority report, an Escape EV would likely follow the Fathom as the second UEV vehicle. It would be a compact crossover similar in size to the outgoing model and carry the internal designation U833.

CEO Jim Farley said at the company’s annual shareholder meeting that Ford plans to build other vehicles on the platform, but, according to the report, he did not mention the Escape.

Meanwhile, new Escape inventory has nearly run out at Ford dealers. Ford Authority reported roughly 500 new Escapes in dealer gross stock at the end of September, down from 25,900 in January. Dealers have used targeted marketing and incentives to move Escape and Edge owners into the Explorer Active, Bronco Sport and Maverick, Ford Authority reported. Dealers should stay tuned for any official updates, but plan trade-in and conquest conversations around the vehicles Ford sells today.

Ford’s first UEV, the Fathom, arrives next year

The Fathom electric pickup will be the first vehicle built on the UEV platform, with production at Louisville. The standard-range model starts at $28,350, or $29,945 with the $1,595 destination fee. Preorders open in early 2027, with deliveries later that year.

Ford CEO Jim Farley said on the third-quarter earnings call that the Fathom launch remains on track for the fourth quarter of next year, Electrek reported.
