Lucid Motors plans three $50K midsize EVs to reach core market

Lucid Motors is preparing to expand its lineup with three new midsize electric vehicles starting around $50,000, aiming for the core EV market. The luxury EV maker confirmed the vehicles will be built on a shared midsize platform, a first for the company, designed to cut costs while simplifying production. The company plans to maintain its premium design and features, despite offering a lower price point.

The first vehicle on the platform will be a midsize crossover SUV, followed by a more rugged version influenced by the Gravity X Concept. Rumors suggest a midsize sedan could be the third model, potentially competing with the Tesla Model 3. Lucid expects initial production to begin in Saudi Arabia around late 2026 or 2027, with full capacity targeted by 2029.

While developing its midsize lineup, Lucid continues to focus on meeting demand for its Gravity SUV. The company has reported steady growth in market share, even as other automakers, including Ford, Hyundai, and Honda, experienced lower EV sales in November following the expiration of the $7,500 federal tax credit. Foot traffic and test drives for Lucid vehicles remain strong, indicating continued buyer interest.

The midsize platform enables Lucid to efficiently scale its offerings while keeping vehicles aligned with the brand’s luxury identity. Executives acknowledge that delivering the same level of refinement and feel as the Air and Gravity models at a lower price point is the main challenge. The new models are intended to compete directly with Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y in terms of affordability and market positioning.
