A house divided will not stand

On this Saturday Morning Sales Meeting, Jonathan Dawson encourages you to make sure your heart and mind are in the same place when you come into the dealership today.

Jonathan Dawson:
All right, everybody. It is Saturday. And I’ve got a message for some of you that I know is going to pierce you in the heart. I want to talk to you who are a house divided. Let me tell you what I mean by that. It’s an expression, a proverb, a saying, if you will, that goes a house divided will not stand. And some of you will recognize this either in yourself or in some of your coworkers where they are not fully present today. It’s Saturday. Today’s the day we got to make it rain. But the problem is some of you, your mind and your heart is divided. You are thinking about the game that you were supposed to go to for your kids or the party that your friend was having, that you can’t attend because it’s Saturday. Your mind right now is divided. You are a house divided and when you’re divided, you can’t stand.

Jonathan Dawson:
Too often I meet salespeople and when they’re at work, they’re not fully present. They’re not really at work. They’re mind and heart is at home with their family. They’re worried about the time they are missing with their family. They’re worried about the events they’re missing with their family. They’re worried about their bills that they need to pay at home. And when they’re home, they’re not present. You see when they’re home, they’re worried about the deal they might be missing. They’re worried about the appointment that might not show up tomorrow. They’re worried about their unit bonus and whether or not they’re going to hit it. You see if you are a person who is a house divided, you can’t stand. I want to speak to you right now if this is you. Listen, there are a few things you can do to strengthen and shore up the foundation, which your business and your house is built on.

Jonathan Dawson:
And what I’m going to encourage you to do is you must today intentionally decide to be fully present today. Whatever is going on in your life, in your heart, and in your mind, that’s not present, you’ve got to put it in the curb, you’ve got to set it aside. You have to be fully present. The problem that you’re struggling with, the situation that you’re dealing with, if you’re not fully present at work, you will not be able to fully solve it when you leave work. You see the reality is your business if it’s healthy, your business, if it’s built on a strong foundation of repeats and referrals, if it’s a business built on you being present, it will take care of a lot of the problems you have at home. But when you’re at home, you also must be fully present. You’ve got to check what happened yesterday at the dealership and leave it alone and be fully present with your family.

Jonathan Dawson:
Spend that quality time with the people that you love. If you don’t give them 100% of your time when you’re back at the dealership, you’ll always feel like your half of you is missing. If you’re a house divided, you’ve got to decide right now that you are going to unify your house. Be fully present today. It’s Saturday. Be fully present at the dealership, fully present with your next customer. Be intentional because if you give 100% of yourself to the customer you’re with today, 100% of your time and energy and focus to today and sell cars today, while you’re at work, then you can give 100% of yourself when you’re at home. There are people that you love the most in this life, and they probably are not at the dealership. For most of you the people you love the most are not employees at the dealership.

Jonathan Dawson:
You don’t get to see them every day. So if you’re going to spend 40, 50, 60, some of you 60 plus hours away from the people that you love, you owe it to them, you deserve to give them the best of you when you’re away from them to your customer so that you can give the best of you when you’re with your family. This is what solves the house divided. If you are a house divided, I’m asking you right now, just purpose in your heart, get your mind straight. Say today, I’m going to give myself totally and intentionally to my next customer. I’m going to be fully present.

Jonathan Dawson:
And when you serve that client at that high level, what will happen is you will be present and the customer will sense that. And when they do business with you, you’ll feel the relief starting to come onto you. Hey, I’m starting to build my house. I’m starting to shore up my foundation and that’s what you’ve got to do because your family deserves the best of you and they deserve 100% and you can’t give it to them, if you’re not giving 100% here at the dealership today. Listen, it’s Saturday. I hope this makes sense to some of you. Do not be a house divided, because if you are you’ll fall. Unify your house and you’ll stand tall.
