Hyundai is recalling more than 51,500 Tucson SUVs after discovering a defect that could increase the risk of a fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recall covers model-year 2022 to 2024 Tucson vehicles equipped with an optional Mobis tow hitch wiring harness. Hyundai said the harness may have been installed incorrectly, allowing water to enter the control module. That intrusion can cause trailer lighting to fail or trigger an electrical short circuit, raising the risk of a crash or fire.
Hyundai is advising owners to park affected vehicles outdoors and away from structures until repairs are completed. Dealers will replace the tow hitch wiring harness at no cost.
Owner notification letters are scheduled for mailing on Feb. 16, 2026. Owners can contact Hyundai at 855-371-9460, referencing recall number 290, or visit NHTSA’s website to check their vehicle identification number for more information.
