On the Dash:
- GM halted 2027 Cadillac Vistiq shipments amid a third-row seat recall
- The recall covers 14,540 SUVs with a seatback that can trap a child while folding
- Dealers will disable the folding function until replacement parts arrive
General Motors has halted shipments of the 2027 Cadillac Vistiq and issued a recall covering 14,540 SUVs after discovering a third-row seat flaw similar to one that prompted Hyundai to recall the Palisade earlier this year.
GM stopped shipping 2027 Vistiq models on June 8, cutting off new deliveries to dealers while the recall remedy is finalized. Production of the 2026 model year had already wrapped up before the recall was issued and was not halted as part of it.
The recall covers 13,629 units of the 2026 Vistiq, built between November 12, 2024, and April 9, 2026, along with 911 units of the 2027 model, built from January 16 to June 15, 2026.
According to the recall notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the third-row seatbacks can fold into the stowed position at the press of a button, either in the cargo area or on the adjacent pillar. The seatback will not automatically reverse if it encounters an obstruction while folding.
GM says an engineer flagged the Vistiq issue through the company’s Speak Up For Safety program after testing the seat in response to the Palisade recall. During that testing, the seatback failed to return to its upright position after folding onto a box.
The automaker is aware of at least six incidents or complaints tied to the flaw but has no reports of injuries.
Dealers have been instructed to replace the folding third-row seat module, though replacement parts are not yet available. In the meantime, owners can bring their vehicles to a dealership to have the third-row folding function disabled. Once parts arrive, GM will restore the feature through a separate customer satisfaction campaign.
Owners are expected to be notified of the recall by August 3.
