AutoNation plans to close its aftermarket collision parts business, known as AutoNation Collision Parts. The closing comes as an effort for the retailer to reduce costs and streamline business. AutoNation will continue its precision parts business which includes the sale of branded maintenance and repair parts. The retailer plans to close its ACP division by the end of 2020.

The president is calling for a boycott on Goodyear. President Donald Trump tweeted his stance on Goodyear as a response to the company allegedly banning his campaign “MAGA” hats from worksites. Later during a white house press conference, President Trump said he was not happy with Goodyear and would even be in favor of swapping out the tires on his presidential limousine.

Automakers are urging dealers to enforce strict Coronavirus precautions. While auto plants have had to follow strict health guidelines such as wearing masks and temperature checks since the beginning of March, dealerships are less uniform due to a variety of local and state orders. Major manufacturers like Ford, GM, and Toyota are all urging dealerships to take every necessary measure to prevent any COVID-19 outbreaks.

Manufacturers are also trying to do their part during the pandemic. Ford announced that its employee donation match program for COVID-19 relief exceeded its goal. Individual contributions raised more than $633,000 and were matched by Ford to help provide well over one million dollars to COVID-19 related relief efforts.

Auto Sales Recovery Exceeds American Economy Growth Rate
A recent US Census report revealed that American retail sales across all industries increased by 1.2 percent from June to July. Although it is below the 2.9 percent increase projected by analysts, it does reveal an important fact: individuals are still buying retail items, even in the midst of the pandemic. Most industries experienced a surge in sales (for example, electronics saw a 22 percent increase in sales). Read More
