How many cars did you not sell last night? Not leads. Not VDPs. Vehicles that were on your site after hours, with buyers ready to move forward, but your website still asked them to fill out a form and wait. That is the gap I discussed with Jim Fitzpatrick on CBT News’ Inside Automotive, and it is one of the biggest missed opportunities in retail automotive today.
Dealers have worked hard to build online traffic. They invest in SEO, paid search, third-party listings, social campaigns, CRM follow-up and better inventory merchandising. But traffic alone is not the finish line. If a buyer can find the vehicle, calculate payment, compare trade value and still cannot take the next step, the website is functioning as a digital brochure, not a sales channel.
Shopping is not buying
Shopping is browsing inventory. Shopping is clicking around. Shopping is submitting a lead form and hoping someone follows up. Buying is different. Buying means the customer can structure a payment, value a trade, apply for credit, select F&I products, upload documents, e-sign, leave a deposit and schedule pickup or delivery without being forced to stop.
That matters because buyers no longer shop on dealer schedules. They shop at night, on weekends, between meetings, and from outside the local market. When they are ready to move forward, friction kills momentum. It creates lead decay. It creates ghosting. It creates the moment where a ready buyer goes elsewhere because another path was easier.
CarJiffy was built to close that gap. Our platform adds a dealer-branded e-commerce layer onto a dealership’s existing website, allowing buyers to move from interest to transaction under the dealer’s own brand. The customer relationship, the data and the transaction stay with the dealership instead of being routed through a third-party marketplace. If the transaction does not happen on the dealer’s site, someone else may own the customer, the data and the sale.
The concern I often hear is, “Does this replace my sales team?” The answer is no. It upgrades them. A cold lead says, “I’m interested.” A CarJiffy buyer may have already structured payments, entered trade details, explored financing, selected options or left a deposit. That creates a very different conversation for the sales team. It is higher intent, more efficient and closer to the point of sale. CarJiffy does not replace your sales team. It hands them buyers.
The impact can be real. One dealer group using CarJiffy generated more than 60 online vehicle sales in four months, representing roughly $2.9 million in incremental gross revenue. Many of those sales happened while the showroom was closed. That is the point. This is not about chasing more leads. It is about converting more buyers.
It is also about margin. A structured online buying flow gives dealers a more consistent way to introduce payment options, trade value, financing and F&I earlier in the journey. That can create stronger F&I opportunities, fewer incomplete leads, better prepared customers and a faster handoff to sales and finance. Less friction means more deals, faster, and often more profitable deals.
In my conversation with Jim Fitzpatrick, we go deeper into why dealers should rethink what their website is supposed to do. Is it there to collect names for follow-up, or is it there to create a true 24/7 sales channel? That distinction will matter more as buyers continue to expect the same convenience in automotive that they already experience in travel, retail, banking and other high-value purchases.
The opportunity for dealers is immediate. You do not need to rebuild your entire operation or give up control of your customer relationship. You need to give buyers a way to keep moving when they are ready.
That is why we are offering a 60-day on-us CarJiffy platform use incentive for dealers who connect with us after watching the interview. No cost. No strings attached. No long-term commitment. Put it on your website. Let your buyers experience it. Let your sales team see the quality of opportunities it creates. Then decide based on real activity inside your own store.
Someone is going to buy a vehicle online tonight. The question is, can they buy it from your dealership?
