NYT best-selling author Simon T. Bailey on how car dealers can use strategic motivation to prevent employee burnout

Technology is allowing you to connect with customers like never before and go beyond the transaction. On today’s show we are pleased to welcome Simon Bailey, International Speaker, Writer, Strategist, and the Author of Shift Your Brilliance: Harness the Power of You, and Be the SPARK: Five Platinum Service Principles for Creating Customers for Life. Bailey joins the show to discuss strategic motivation.

Bailey begins the conversation by discussing the best methods of motivation for automotive teams. He provides three factors starting with connecting is the new currency. Connecting with people is so important because everyone has been impacted differently by the events associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Bailey’s second factor is empathy and care. Associates need to be reminded that the people around them care about their wellbeing. Bailey’s third factor is authenticity about how the business is doing. People are able to be more effective in the workplace when employers work to ease their anxiety.

Bailey warns that worry can be a crippling component in workplace motivation. In the interview, Bailey said, “Worry creates fear, fear creates stress, and stress ultimately creates burnout.” Business owners should work diligently to create psychological safety for employees. This will help promote motivation and prevent burnout.

Bailey concludes the conversation by discussing the importance of social media. Bailey says it is a big mistake for companies to neglect social media presence. He says that potential customers look on social media, youtube, and business websites to understand the company’s story. This helps them decide whether to do business with the company or not.
