The future of Stellantis, Nissan: ‘The change was needed’ says Wanda Cronic-Howell | Cronic Automotive Group

On today’s episode of Inside Automotive, Wanda Cronic-Howell, Owner and Dealer Principal of Cronic Automotive Group, joins us to discuss the shifting dynamics at Stellantis and the challenges facing Nissan. With a deep commitment to the brands she represents, Cronic-Howell shares her insights on leadership changes at Stellantis, the state of the automotive market, and the evolving role of electric vehicles.

Wanda Cronic-Howell shares her thoughts on the resignation of Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, acknowledging that the change was necessary for the brand’s revitalization. While expressing her unwavering support for the brand, she acknowledges the need for a new direction, particularly in pricing and focus on the North American market. She believes the company has lost focus on key elements like value pricing, which has significantly affected dealer operations—a concern she feels needs addressing.

Reflecting on her own dealership’s challenges, Cronic-Howell points out that a major $5 million renovation in the first half of the year forced them to operate out of a trailer. Despite this, she remains optimistic about the future, especially as 2025 approaches.

On the other hand, when referencing Nissan, she expresses concern over the brand’s product development and its position in the market, especially with its entry-level vehicles. She underlines the need for Nissan to continue prioritizing affordability, which many other manufacturers have pulled out of that segment.

Conversely, her Chevrolet business is thriving, with an increasing focus on EVs. Cronic-Howell reveals that her dealership plans to hold an EV event to engage with consumers and educate them about EVs. This reflects her belief that EVs are essential to the industry’s future.

Finally, Cronic-Howell shares her optimistic outlook for the upcoming year, despite her business challenges. She also remains confident that the renovation and strategic focus on EVs will aid her dealership in 2025.

"I think change is good, and I think we're ready. New leadership at Stellantis will certainly provide that direction, especially focusing on the North American market and pricing. It's definitely needed." – Wanda Cronic-Howell.
