Maryland launches FY25 EV charger rebate program covering up to 50% of costs

"This program is reducing reliance on fossil fuels, improving air quality, and creating a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations.”
Maryland’s FY25 Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Rebate Program is now open. This program provides substantial financial incentives

Maryland’s FY25 Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Rebate Program is now open. This program, run by the Maryland Energy Administration, provides substantial financial incentives for residents and businesses to install electric vehicle (EV) chargers. It aims to expand the state’s EV charging infrastructure by offering rebates on purchasing and installing eligible chargers.

Rebate Details:

  • Residential Rebates: Maryland homeowners can receive up to 50% of the cost, capped at $700 per charger. Each resident is eligible for one rebate.
  • Commercial Rebates: Businesses can receive up to 50% of the cost, capped at $5,000 per charger, with a maximum total award of $125,000 per applicant for FY25.
  • Eligible Costs: Rebates can cover charger equipment, installation, labor, permitting, and site preparation.

To qualify, chargers must be installed in Maryland, safety certified, and purchased new. Installation must be completed by a Maryland-licensed electrician or self-installed if the applicant holds a valid license. However, the program does not cover ongoing maintenance, electricity, or shipping costs.

Paul G. Pinsky, Director of the Maryland Energy Administration, highlighted the program’s environmental benefits, stating, “By increasing the number of charging stations across the state, this program is reducing reliance on fossil fuels, improving air quality, and creating a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations.”

How to Apply:

Applications can be submitted electronically or by mail, with a secure email option for residential applicants. Applications must be completed within six months of project completion. Detailed instructions and the Funding Opportunity Announcement are available on the FY25 EVSE Rebate Program website.

With limited funding, this rebate program operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so Marylanders interested in installing EV chargers are encouraged to apply promptly.
