GoJo Auto Owner Amanda Gordon on Becoming the First African-American Woman to be a Licensed Dealer in Colorado

The vehicle purchase process can be a daunting one for many consumers, but one used independent car dealer has made it her mission to change that with the “GoJo Experience”. Amanda Gordon, Owner of GoJo Auto talks to us about her efforts and what’s next for her dealership.

In this segment, Jim and Amanda begin by discussing her journey in the automotive retail industry. From humble beginnings working at GAP, Amanda was already making a splash. She was recruited by a customer to work in a Honda dealership and quickly moved through the ranks which ultimately lead to opening and owning her own independent dealership.

During her time in the dealership, Amanda saw that the demographics of gender and minority representation in the auto industry were extremely underrepresented. So she decided to set a goal of attracting and retaining more women in the industry by hiring more than 100 women for her business. Along with three other successful women of color, she also founded the Women of Color Automotive Network or WOCAN.

Jim and Amanda then tackle the strategies she has in place at GoJo Auto to change the negative stigma associated with the used car market, the importance of digital retailing, and what’s next for GoJo Auto.

In addition to owning GoJo Auto, Amanda Gordon is also an ambassador for the Colorado Independent Automobile Association and a member of the Denver NAACP. In her 18 year career, she has been named one of  Auto Remarketing’s “40 under 40,” Urban Leadership Foundation of Colorado’s “2020 Leader of the Year,” and a 2019 New Leader honoree for the Colorado Black Chamber.
