Bentley names its first EV the Torcal, a midsize electric SUV set to debut in September

The Torcal will slot below the Bentayga and become Bentley’s fourth model line when it is revealed in London on September 23.

Torcal

On the Dash:

  • Bentley has confirmed its first fully electric vehicle will be called the Torcal, a midsize SUV that sits below the Bentayga in the brand’s lineup.
  • Reports suggest the Torcal could share hardware with the Porsche Cayenne Electric, though Bentley has not released full specifications.
  • A full reveal is scheduled for September 23 in London, with more details expected in the weeks leading up to the event.

Bentley has named its first fully electric vehicle. The Torcal is a midsize SUV that will become the brand’s fourth model line alongside the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Bentayga. It will be revealed in London on September 23.

To date, Bentley’s electrification strategy has been limited to plug-in hybrids. The Torcal marks the brand’s first step into full battery-electric territory. Although the SUV will be smaller than the Bentayga, reports suggest it could share hardware with the Porsche Cayenne Electric, but Bentley has not yet released full specifications.

A teaser image released alongside the name announcement shows the rear of the vehicle, confirming an SUV roofline and thin taillights with a diamond-like design and a black Bentley badge. Bentley has confirmed a range of more than 300 miles.

The name

Like the Bentayga, Bacalar, and Batur before it, the Torcal takes its name from a natural landmark. El Torcal de Antequera is a limestone reserve in Andalusia, Spain, known for its dramatic rock formations, towering cliffs, and caves. The name also carries an automotive connection. Torcal is derived from the Latin torquere, meaning to twist, the same root from which the word torque originates.

“For 107 years Bentleys have been the most incredibly complete cars,” said Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, Bentley’s Chairman and CEO in the release. “Our new Torcal sets extraordinary benchmarks in every area that matters, and may just be the most considered car in our history.”

What this means for dealers

The Torcal adds a fourth model line to Bentley’s portfolio and introduces the brand’s first fully electric option for customers. For Bentley dealers, it represents a new conversation on the showroom floor as the brand moves beyond plug-in hybrids for the first time in its 107-year history. More details are expected in the weeks ahead of the September 23 reveal.
