Toyota has revealed the new Land Cruiser FJ prototype, expanding its iconic SUV lineup with a compact, adventure-ready model set to launch in Japan by mid-2026. The prototype will be showcased at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo from Oct. 30 to Nov. 9.
First introduced in 1951, the Land Cruiser has sold over 12 million units across 190 countries, earning its reputation for durability and off-road capability. The new FJ joins the existing 300, 250, and 70 Series, offering a smaller, more accessible option designed for outdoor enthusiasts and urban drivers alike.
Built on Toyota’s IMV platform, the FJ combines rugged performance with modern design. It features a 2.7-liter gasoline engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and part-time four-wheel drive, along with enhanced ground clearance and articulation. The shorter wheelbase provides a tight 5.5-meter turning radius for improved maneuverability.
The SUV’s squared-off silhouette, removable bumpers, and customizable accessories, including round headlights and MOLLE panels, highlight Toyota’s focus on personalization and practicality. Inside, the cabin features a horizontal instrument panel, intuitive controls, and improved visibility for both on- and off-road driving.
Toyota also previewed the Land Hopper, a small electric mobility vehicle designed to fit in the FJ’s cargo area, extending the brand’s spirit of adventure beyond traditional driving.
The Land Cruiser FJ underscores Toyota’s push to blend heritage and innovation, offering customers a new way to experience freedom, reliability, and fun behind the wheel.
