Toyota North America is investing more than $50 million to expand its Arizona Proving Grounds into a next-generation vehicle and mobility testing hub. Now branded as the Arizona Mobility Test Center (AMTC at TAPG), the site will feature a new 5.5-mile oval track, an off-road park, and enhanced ride and handling surfaces.
The expansion also paves the way for a future facility dedicated to developing advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The proving grounds have been managed by Interk since 2021 and are open to outside companies for testing, having already hosted nearly 300 vehicles and dozens of industry events.
Here’s why it matters:
Toyota’s investment in U.S.-based testing infrastructure signals a robust commitment to developing next-generation vehicles in North America, which includes models built specifically for U.S. consumers. For dealers, this means faster and more relevant innovation, especially in off-road, handling, and ADAS technologies. In addition, the expansion strengthens Toyota’s manufacturing and R&D presence in the U.S., reinforcing long-term product stability and reducing reliance on overseas testing. As more vehicles are engineered closer to where they’re sold, dealers may see improvements in vehicle performance tailored to local driving needs.
