On the Dash:
- BlueCruise is widely used for both short commutes and longer road trips, with over 70% of trips lasting under 20 minutes and nearly 50% of hour-long drives utilizing the system.
- The F-150 leads in usage, logging the most miles and hours with BlueCruise, while the all-electric F-150 Lightning shows significant growth, reflecting strong adoption across various vehicle types.
- Overall adoption is skyrocketing, with 140 million miles, 2 million hours, and nearly 12 million trips in 2024, representing a 33% and 24% increase from the previous year. Usage is expected to rise further in 2025 with expanded vehicle availability.
Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving technology recorded unprecedented usage in 2024, as drivers utilized the system for everything, from their daily commutes to holiday road trips, according to the automaker’s recently released BlueCruise Mapped report.
The company reported that Ford and Lincoln owners used BlueCruise for 140 million miles and 2 million hours in 2024, a 33% increase from the prior year. Nearly 12 million trips were taken using the feature, representing a 24% year-over-year increase.
The busiest day was Friday, August 30, 2024, the start of Labor Day weekend, when drivers activated BlueCruise for nearly 44,000 trips, the most of any day of the year and a 32% increase from 2023. During the holiday season, customers logged the longest single-day distances on December 21, driving 610,000 miles with 8,600 hours of usage.
Pickup truck owners are leading the way in adopting BlueCruise technology. The Ford F-150 accumulated 58 million miles and 826,000 hours of BlueCruise driving, reflecting a 42% increase from 2023. Notably, electric F-150 Lightning drivers saw their usage rise by more than 50%.
Patterns in highway usage have also emerged. Michigan’s I-96 recorded the highest number of trips overall, while Florida’s I-95 was the most popular route outside of Ford’s home state. This underscores a strong adoption of the technology along busy travel corridors.
The data reveals that driver habits differ based on trip length. More than 70% of trips were under 20 minutes, primarily for commuting purposes. In contrast, on longer journeys lasting more than an hour, the BlueCruise system was active nearly half of the time.
Ford expects usage to continue climbing in 2025 as the technology expands across more of its lineup. BlueCruise is now available in the 2025 Explorer and in nearly 90% of Expedition models, bringing the number of equipped vehicles on U.S. roads to over 1 million.
