Ford recalls over 3 million vehicles due to shift cable problems

Ford is currently under scrutiny and dealing with a large mess as they recall over three million vehicles because of an error. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) filed a safety complaint and recalled Ford vehicles. The car part in question is either missing or broken on over 3.3 million cars. Without this piece, switching gears is almost entirely impossible.

This deadly mistake caught many by surprise, including Ford, as they scrambled to put out the safety recall. Without this piece, it is possible for the car to continue moving forward or in reverse even when the gear has manually been shifted into ‘park.’ It took six official reports until this safety recall was placed.

Since 2018, there have been five different safety recalls of Ford vehicles, urging a question and concern for safety. Thankfully, no fatalities have occurred because of the piece, which is a shift cable. While the recall is in effect, it is important to note that the likeliness of a breakdown or accident is low.

Ford was not the only large car company to issue a recall because of safety. Mustang on Tuesday filed an official recall for approximately 49,000 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles since a critical part had the potential to overheat.
