BMW streamlines XM lineup with 738-HP label model for 2026

BMW drops its base XM model for 2026, streamlining the lineup to a single high-performance plug-in hybrid with upgraded features and faster charging.

BMW is simplifying its flagship performance SUV lineup by eliminating the base model XM and moving forward exclusively with the high-powered BMW XM Label for 2026. The updated model, producing 738 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, will be unveiled on June 14 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and enter production in August at BMW’s Spartanburg, South Carolina plant.

The 2026 XM Label is powered by a plug-in hybrid M HYBRID system that combines a 577-hp twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine with a 194-hp electric motor integrated into an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. BMW claims the SUV accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 180 mph, which is standard with the M Driver’s Package in Canada. The XM Label remains the most powerful M production vehicle to date.

Alongside its performance, BMW has updated the XM Label with several aesthetic and functional enhancements. New customization options include BMW Individual Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic exterior paint, Jet Black 23-inch M alloy wheels, and a Welcome Light Animation. Inside, customers can now choose from three new leather upholstery options, including Night Blue and Black Full Merino Leather with Vintage Coffee accents, and Silverstone Extended Merino Leather with black accents. Rear seat comfort cushions now come standard with all Merino leather configurations.

The onboard AC charging rate has also been increased from 7.4 kW to 11 kW, allowing faster recharging of the SUV’s 26-kWh lithium-ion battery, which is installed under the floor.

Initially introduced for the 2023 model year with 644 horsepower, the BMW XM lineup expanded with the even more powerful Label variant in 2024. By 2026, BMW has chosen to focus solely on this top-tier version. While U.S. pricing has not yet been announced, the 2025 XM Label starts at $186,175; Canadian pricing for 2026 will begin at $220,000 CAD.

The XM Label will also share the spotlight with BMW M Motorsport’s entry in the FIA World Endurance Championship, as the M Hybrid V8 competes at Le Mans on the same day the vehicle is officially unveiled.
