Ford recalls over 355K pickups over instrument panel display defect

The automaker states that a blank dashboard display issue could increase the risk of crashes.

On the Dash:

  • Ford is recalling over 355K 2025–2026 Super Duty trucks and the 2025 F-150 for faulty instrument panel displays.
  • Affected trucks may show blank screens at startup, preventing drivers from seeing safety warnings or speed information.
  • Free software updates will be available at dealerships or through over-the-air updates starting in September 2025.

Ford is recalling 355,656 trucks in the United States after identifying a defect in the instrument panel cluster that could prevent drivers from seeing critical safety information, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall affects 2025–2026 Ford Super Duty trucks, including the F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550, along with the 2025 F-150. Federal regulators said the digital display may fail to illuminate at startup, leaving safety-related gauges and warning lights unreadable. NHTSA said this defect increases the risk of a crash if drivers are unaware of essential vehicle conditions.

The problem stems from a software issue in the instrument panel’s memory system. During startup, a timing error can trigger a memory protection fault that leaves the screen blank. Ford confirmed that every vehicle included in the recall is expected to carry the defect, though the company reported no crashes or injuries tied to the condition.

The instrument panel cluster, also known as the IPC, controls the digital dashboard display that shows key vehicle information such as speed, fuel level, and navigation. A failure of this system poses safety risks because it prevents drivers from monitoring performance and responding to warning indicators.

Ford said the updated software disables the memory protection feature that caused the defect, ensuring the display functions properly on startup.

Dealers will fix the problem by updating the instrument panel software. Owners may receive the update either at a Ford or Lincoln dealership or through an over-the-air download at no cost. Notification letters will be sent to affected owners beginning Sept. 2, with completion expected by Sept. 5. Dealers were notified of the recall on Aug. 25.

The recall is listed under NHTSA campaign number 25V540.

The automaker continues to coordinate with NHTSA on compliance and safety notifications. While no accidents or injuries have been reported, the scale of the recall underscores the growing reliance on software-driven systems in modern vehicles and the safety concerns when those systems fail.
