Toyota has officially announced the redesigned 2026 bZ, its next-generation battery electric SUV, arriving at dealerships in the second half of 2025. The model, previously known as the bZ4X, receives a new name, improved powertrains, enhanced charging capabilities, and an updated design inside and out.

Leading the upgrades is a new 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery option available on XLE FWD Plus, XLE AWD, and Limited models, with a manufacturer-estimated range of up to 314 miles. A smaller 57.7-kWh battery will be offered on the XLE FWD, providing up to 236 miles of range.

The 2026 bZ also includes a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, offering compatibility with a wide network of high-speed DC fast chargers. Under ideal conditions, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes. A new Plug & Charge function simplifies charging by enabling automatic authentication without needing multiple apps. The onboard AC charger has also been upgraded from 7-kW to 11-kW for faster Level 2 charging.

Performance and eAxle improvements

All-wheel drive models benefit from new compact eAxles with silicon carbide semiconductors, boosting output to 338 horsepower—up 50% from the prior model—and enabling 0-60 mph acceleration in 4.9 seconds. Front-wheel drive versions also see a power increase to 221 hp.

New paddle shifters allow drivers to control regenerative braking, adjusting the energy recovery rate to personal preference. The SUV features battery pre-conditioning, activated manually or via navigation, to optimize DC charging in cold weather. Additional energy-saving enhancements include a heat pump HVAC system, heated front seats and steering wheel, radiant foot-and-leg heaters, and a thermal battery management system for cold climates.

Updated exterior and refined interior

The 2026 model retains the small SUV proportions but features a refined front fascia with slim LED lighting and available color-matched overfenders. Inside, the cabin receives a redesigned dashboard, upgraded soft-touch materials, and a larger 14-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen. Ambient lighting with 64 color options adds to the upscale feel.

The bZ provides 42.1 inches of front legroom and 35.3 inches in the rear, with 27.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row. It measures 184.6 inches long with an 8.2-inch ground clearance.

Grade features and options

XLE Grade Highlights:

  • Choice of FWD, FWD Plus, or AWD
  • 18-inch wheels, heated SofTex-trimmed steering wheel
  • Fabric/SofTex-trimmed heated front seats

Connected tech and audio features

All 2026 bZ models include a six-speaker system, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, and a 14-inch touchscreen powered by Toyota’s Connected Technologies team. The vehicle offers a Drive Connect 3-year trial with Intelligent Assistant voice commands, cloud navigation, and live agent destination support.

Wi-Fi Connect enables 4G hotspot service for up to five devices and integrated streaming via Apple Music® and Amazon Music subscriptions.

Ultimately, Customers can choose from a range of single- and two-tone color options, including color-matched overfenders for Wind Chill Pearl, Heavy Metal, or Black finishes.
