Jeep has recently confirmed the launch of its first global EV, the Wagoneer S, which is expected to go on sale later this fall. Although it shares a nameplate with the brand’s larger gas-powered Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, the company refers to the Wagoneer S as a mid-size model.

According to the automaker, “The Wagoneer S is designed for those who desire the art of American premium that comes with Wagoneer. It will offer elevated style and interior features, excellent on-road and all-weather performance- and it’s entirely electric.”

In 2022, Jeep debuted concept photos of the Wagoneer S together with the Recon, a boxy electric SUV. Although Jeep had previously referred to the “Wagoneer S” name as a codename, it now seems like Jeep is set on using that name for its first EV.

The latest image supplied by the carmaker shows the vehicle’s front end veiled in darkness, but the illuminated grille and other design features from the initial concept photos remain. The automaker restated the initial specifications and indicated that the Wagoneer S would achieve a 0-60 mph speed of just 3.5 seconds with its 600-horsepower engine.

Stellantis, Jeep’s parent company, has been slow to adopt EVs but plans to change this with the launch of the ProMaster EV and Ram 1500 REV in 2024. Moreover, Dodge hinted at a future electric Charger, while Fiat will add an electric 500 hatchback to its US lineup. Jeep is planning on making a formal announcement in the upcoming months.
