Honda teases redesigned Civic, hybrid powertrain coming summer 2024

Honda has published new details and visuals for the 2025 Civic, revealing a refreshed design and new hybrid powertrain.

The hybrid model, available as a sedan or hatchback, is slated to launch this summer. However, the only images Honda shared of the vehicle showcased the sedan in the Sport Touring trim. Honda is likely to reserve some trims for gas-powered iterations, although it hopes the eco-friendly model will account for 40% of the vehicle’s sales.

Unlike previous model year versions, the 2025 Civic features a slightly more muscle-car aesthetic, with vertical intakes, a hexagonal mesh across the upper and lower grills, and a slightly sharper angle to the front windshield. The vehicle also comes with redesigned wheels that appear to have sleeker profiles and angular spokes.

The new Civic hybrid will feature a powertrain design similar to that of the Accord and CR-V eco-friendly models, although Honda has yet to reveal the exact driving range or engine setup. The model will be the first purchasable hybrid in the Civic lineup in the U.S. since 2015, excluding the Insight. That model was built off the Civic design and featured a 1.5-liter gas engine, potentially hinting at the upcoming vehicle’s own powertrain, but was discontinued in 2022.

Honda has more details to release about the 2025 Civic, including information on interior features that consumers can expect to see in the coming weeks as the end of winter approaches. But for now, buyers have little to go off of other than the prospect of a new hybrid model and a redesigned exterior. The return of an eco-friendly Civic, however, underscores the car industry’s renewed interest in hybrids, which currently outperform zero-emission vehicles in sales and appear to be a more economically viable solution to transitioning away from gas-powered models, at least for now.
