More details about Polestar 3 Electric SUV released ahead of October 12 debut

Polestar 3

Polestar is sharing details about its upcoming Polestar 3 model, which the company plans to unveil on October 12 during an event in Copenhagen. The electric SUV will be the company’s third vehicle in its lineup and marks its first attempt to break into the premium SUV segment in the US. It will find competition among top brands and models, like Tesla’s Model X, Audi E-tron, Mercedes-Benz EQE, Rivian R1S, and Fisker Ocean.

The Polestar 3 will be assembled at Volvo’s Charleston, South Carolina plant, making it the first EV from the company made in the United States.

The electric SUV focuses on providing comfort and firm suspension dynamics, with the ability to switch back and forth seamlessly. The company says the vehicle will adjust to road conditions once every two milliseconds, enabled by an adaptive dual-chamber air suspension and active dampers.

Features include a rear-biased dual-motor power train with electric torque vectoring via a dual-clutch system. The Polestar will include a dual-motor drivetrain and a battery range of over 372 miles (600km). It will also feature a partially autonomous driving system for highway use enabled by a lidar sensor provided by supplier Luminar. Nvidia will provide the onboard computing hardware.

The Swedish automaker will also offer buyers an optional Performance Pack, which provides 510 horsepower and 671 pound-feet of torque. The previous Polestar 2 had a similar Performance Pack offering, costing buyers an additional $5,500.

Volvo, which jointly owns Polestar along with parent company Geely, has said it will include a hands-free highway driving feature as part of its next platform update, dubbed the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA2), which is scheduled for release with the next-generation EX90 SUV and the Polestar 3 in 2022.
