  • Ford is recalling 101,944 2016–2019 Taurus sedans due to a B-pillar trim defect that could detach while driving.
  • The defect affects only about 1% of the recalled vehicles, and no incidents or injuries have been reported.
  • Dealers will inspect and repair the trim as needed, with owner notification letters beginning Sept. 22 and final remedies expected by year-end.

Ford Motor Co. is recalling 101,944 vehicles due to a defect that may cause the door trim to detach while driving, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced on Friday. The recall affects Ford Taurus sedans from model years 2016 through 2019, though the automaker expects only 1% of the vehicles to be impacted.

The defect involves the B-pillar trim on the driver and front passenger side doors, which could detach while driving. This could create flying debris and road hazards, increasing the risk of crashes and property damage. Ford is not aware of any incidents or injuries related to the issue.

The problem stems from incomplete adhesion of the B-pillar part to the door sheet metal during installation. Vehicle owners may notice the trim separating from the top of the doors and hear rattling or wind noise while driving.

Dealers will inspect the B-pillar trim and replace or repair it as necessary. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed by Sept. 22, with a follow-up letter expected by the end of the year once a final remedy is available.

The NHTSA recall number is 25V611.
