- Sales in China dropped 19.7%, the eighth consecutive monthly decline there, and Middle East sales fell 29.8%.
- U.S. sales rose 8.4% and Japan sales increased 1.8%, showing uneven regional demand across Toyota’s markets.
On October 29, Toyota reported that global vehicle sales and production declined for a third consecutive month in September. According to Reuters, global sales fell 2.2% year over year to 860,107 vehicles, while production fell 3.2% to 889,079 vehicles. Toyota’s figures also include sales and production from its luxury Lexus brand.
Sales in China fell 19.7%, extending the decline in that market to eight consecutive months. According to the automaker, higher gasoline prices weighed on demand for gasoline-powered and hybrid vehicles there. Middle East sales also fell 29.8%, which added to the global decline.
However, gains in the United States and Japan partially offset those losses. U.S. sales, Toyota’s largest market, rose 8.4%, and Japan sales rose 1.8%.
Production also varied by market, as Toyota’s output in China fell 18.6% year over year, and U.S. production declined 2.9%. Meanwhile, Japan stood out as the exception, with production rising 5.8%, the only increase among the three markets reported.
