Ford is expanding the Mustang Dark Horse SC lineup by introducing a new convertible model for 2027. This addition offers buyers the option of an open-air driving experience while maintaining the power of the supercharged 5.2-liter Predator V8 engine, and will be the first high-performance Mustang convertible available since 2013.
The supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine produces an impressive 795 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque and sends power to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The convertible is built on a reinforced Mustang GT convertible structure and shares its powertrain with the Dark Horse SC coupe.
Structural & performance upgrades
Ford Racing engineers have made several structural and performance upgrades to enhance the convertible’s capabilities. For example, it added a lightweight magnesium tower-to-tower brace for additional support. Further, the vehicle features MagneRide suspension for improved ride comfort and handling.
Additionally, Ford Racing also modified the spoiler stanchions, exhaust tuning and hood heat extractor to accommodate the convertible design. The engineers focused on achieving grand-touring performance rather than prioritizing lap times for this model, ensuring a blend of high performance and open-air enjoyment.
Although Ford has not yet announced pricing for the Dark Horse SC convertible, it will likely cost slightly more than the coupe, which starts at $108,485 for the 2026 model year. Orders for the convertible open this fall, and deliveries to dealerships begin in spring 2027.
