Hyundai ends stop-sale of Palisade SUVs, issues critical software fix

Hyundai resumes sales of select 2026 Palisade models after deploying a software fix that addresses a power-folding third-row seat obstruction-detection issue linked to the recall.

Hyundai ends stop-sale on select 2026 Palisade and Palisade Hybrid models.

  • Hyundai has ended the stop-sale on select 2026 Palisade and Palisade Hybrid trims.
  • A free software update is now available over the air or at dealerships.
  • The update changes seat controls and improves occupant detection for safety.

Sales of Hyundai’s Palisade SUV have resumed after the South Korean automaker ended a stop-sale on select 2026 Palisade, Palisade Hybrid Limited and Calligraphy trims.

Hyundai issued the stop-sale and recall of about 68,500 Palisade SUVs in March after a child was killed when the power-folding third-row seats failed to detect an obstruction.  Hyundai also reported four injuries in the United States linked to the issue and said two additional passengers were injured in South Korea in October and December. The automaker said it expressed its deepest sympathies to the family of the child involved in the incident.

Hyundai now says it has fixed the issue with a software update. The automaker is offering a permanent fix to affected owners at no cost. Owners can get the update over the air through an active Bluelink subscription or by visiting a Hyundai dealership.

With the update, the liftgate must be open before the fold-flat seat functions can be used for the second and third rows. Touchscreen controls for seat folding and stowing have also been disabled. Second-row tilt-and-fold functions now require press-and-hold input for third-row access. Hyundai says it has also improved occupant and object detection logic in the software update.

Affected owners will be notified by Hyundai. Customers with questions can contact Hyundai’s recall support at (855) 371-9460.
