Ford’s August sales surge 13.4%, driven by F-Series trucks and hybrids

Additionally, all-electric vehicle sales, including the F-150 Lightning pickup, saw a notable 29% increase.
Ford reported a 13.4% increase in U.S. vehicle sales for August, selling nearly 183,000 vehicles, driven by strong performances

Ford reported a significant 13.4% increase in U.S. vehicle sales for August, selling nearly 183,000 vehicles. This surge was primarily driven by strong performances in the company’s F-Series trucks and hybrid models. Sales of Ford’s F-Series trucks rose by 12.3%, while hybrid vehicle sales soared by approximately 50% compared to the same period last year. Additionally, all-electric vehicle sales, including the F-150 Lightning pickup, saw a notable 29% increase.

Despite the growth in electrified models, traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles still dominated Ford’s sales, accounting for 86% of the total in August. Moreover, Ford’s performance exceeded industry expectations, which had anticipated a 6% year-over-year increase.

In contrast, U.S. auto sales overall have been stable but below initial expectations, with Barclays recently lowering its 2024 sales forecast from 16 million to 15.8 million vehicles.

The Detriot automakers‘ sales for the year through August have risen by 4.3% to 1.4 million units. The Hyundai brand also reported a strong August, with a 22% increase in sales compared to the previous year.
