Cadillac unveils new, small electric SUV, set for release in 2025

The 2025 Optiq, a small electric SUV, will join Cadillac’s growing electric lineup for the upcoming model year. The new model, which will be positioned beneath the mid-size Lyriq, is expected to face competition from cars like the Mercedes-Benz EQB, Audi Q4 e-tron, and Genesis GV60. The Optiq’s moniker, which ends in “IQ,” also harmonizes it with Cadillac’s other electric models, such as the flagship Celestiq and Escalade IQ.

The Optiq has elegant-looking headlights and taillights, lots of chrome and gloss-black trim, and a stunning appearance in the brilliant orange hue seen in the initial photos. The Optiq’s overall design is more compact than the Lyriq’s, although it still has a comparable overall appearance.

It’s assumed that the electric SUV will use General Motors’ Ultium battery packs, and it follows that it will ride on the same chassis as the Chevy Equinox EV, which is of comparable size.

Should the Optiq take on the drivetrain configurations of the Equinox EV, this may entail a standard single-motor layout that powers the front wheels with an electric motor rated at 210 horsepower and an optional dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup that increases output to 290 horsepower. In the longest-range designs, range estimates can be close to 300 miles.

Starting prices should be in the mid- $40,000 to $45,000 range. The 2025 Cadillac Optiq is expected to be offered in the U.S., China, Canada, and the Middle East when it eventually makes its primetime debut. Additional details will come in 2024 when Cadillac pushes the Optiq to American dealerships.
