On April 17, Volkswagen revealed a new, electric sedan that, when it hits the U.S. market in 2024, will feature a top-level trim with a range of more than 300 miles.

The new ID.7 will act as the company’s flagship for its expanding lineup of mainstream EVs. Over two-thirds of the approximately $200 billion in investments that the manufacturer anticipates making between now and 2027 will go toward “electrification and digitalization.” By 2030, the business anticipates that EVs will make up around 80% of sales for the VW brand in Europe and about 50% in the U.S.

VW anticipates that the new ID.7 will be crucial to this transition. It’s a sizable sedan with an eye-catching hatchback style that increases headroom in the back seats and enhances aerodynamic performance.

With the optional 86 kilowatt-hour battery on the European WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure) test cycle, the ID.7 can go up to 435 miles, thanks to its aerodynamic emphasis and a brand-new high-efficiency electric motor.

Additionally, the EV range ratings the US Environmental Protection Agency provides are frequently 10% to 20% lower than WLTP values. According to the manufacturer, base models will include a 77 kWh battery with a WLTP cycle range estimate of 382 miles.

The ID.7’s interior is a huge high-tech wonderland, as one would anticipate from a vehicle intended to compete with Tesla’s Model 3 in international markets. Beyond the now-standard big touchscreen, all ID.7s will include a heads-up display as standard equipment that projects images into the driver’s field of view in place of the majority of conventional dashboard gauges. Additionally, a sizable auto-dimming sunroof that will be standard on ID.7s when they arrive in the United States in 2024 will be voice-activated like many other features.
