General Motors reports new Q4 sales record for plug-in BEVs

The company wants to boost BEV sales in the United States
GM, General Motor delivered

General Motors sales reach another record result. GM said 623,261 vehicles were delivered in the United States during the fourth quarter. In 2022, that is a 41% year-over-year growth. 2,274,088 vehicles were delivered by the company, which is 2.5% more than in 2021.

GM increased its battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales in the fourth quarter, setting another record. Compared to the 26 BEVs delivered a year before, the company delivered a total of 16,266 BEVs. The manufacturer counts the commercial vehicle brands BrightDrop separately. The figures include three brands: Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC.

With the assistance of the Chevrolet Bolt EV/Bolt EUV pair, GM is setting new records. Both the GMC Hummer EV truck and the Cadillac Lyriq are still in the slow ramp-up stages.

GM delivered 39,096 all-electric vehicles in the United States in 2022, a 57% increase over the previous year. GM’s overall volume increased by 1.7%, while BEV sales reached a record high.

With nine EV models on the market, GM intends to capitalize on this momentum in North America in 2023 and increase the market share for EVs. The list will consist of,

  • Cadillac Lyriq (ramp-up)
  • Chevrolet Blazer EV (Summer 2023)
  • Chevrolet Bolt EV/Bolt EUV (production increase to over 70,000/year)
  • Chevrolet Equinox (Fall 2023)
  • Chevrolet Silverado EV (Spring 2023)
  • GMC Hummer EV pickup (ramp-up)
  • GMC Hummer EV SUV (mid-2023)
  • BrightDrop Zevo 600 (ramp-up)
  • BrightDrop Zevo 400 (lauch 2023)

The company wants to boost BEV sales in the United States to one million yearly, or around 250,000 every quarter, by 2025.
