Light glitch causes GM to recall more than 850,000 vehicles

As more recalls get announced, more vehicles are impacted.
General Motors recall, recalls

General Motors is recalling more than 825,000 vehicles in the US and Canada. The cause of the recall is daytime running lights being left on when the headlights are on. This is an expansion of the recall that was initially announced in November.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the vehicles don’t meet the standards of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, which is reflected in regulation number 108 for lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.

According to the agency, “if headlights are left on, it may cause a glare, lowering visibility and raising the risk of a crash.” However, a dealer or over-the-air update will be used to update the body control module software to resolve the problem.

GM has issued 29 recalls so far this year, affecting close to 3.3 million vehicles, some of which are also subject to other recalls.

The 2021–23 Buick Envision, the 2020–23 Cadillac CT4 and CT5, the Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the Suburban, the Tahoe, the GMC Sierra 1500, the Yukon, and the Yukon XL cars are all included in this recall.

In total, 85,685 vehicles in Canada and 740,000 in the United States are affected by this recall. On December 8, dealers received a warning that owners will likely get a recall notice on January 23, 2023. GM is unaware of any accidents or fatalities connected to the recall.
