Does the evolution of business mean more remote workers?

To the Editor:

Working remotely has its pros and cons. I think it’s smart to call it the ‘evolution of work’ instead of the ‘future of work’. We’ve spent so much time over the last year learning how to do business in new ways, and it would be a shame to forget those lessons and return to old practices just because it’s familiar.

For some employees, it makes more sense to work in the office. But there are many Americans that are capable of working remotely. I’m interested to see how Ford’s experiment plays out over the next few years. If Ford can do it, look for other automakers to do it too.

Remote workers function differently at the dealership than they do at the OEM level. Sales and service will probably always need to be in-person. 2020 taught dealers that work schedules and business models can evolve and change over time without hurting the business. In every area of their business, dealers should rely more on evolution than tradition.
