  • Scout Motors will invest $206 million in Charlotte, creating 1,200 high-paying jobs over five years.
  • The automaker will produce electric and hybrid Scout vehicles at a new plant in South Carolina starting in 2027.
  • Charlotte’s strong talent pool and automotive sector growth make it a strategic location for a headquarters.

Scout Motors has selected Charlotte, North Carolina, for its U.S. headquarters. The company plans to invest $206 million in the site and create 1,200 jobs over the next five years, with average annual wages of $172,000, nearly double the county average. The headquarters will be located within Commonwealth, a mixed-use development in Charlotte’s Plaza Midwood neighborhood.

The company’s planned lineup includes hybrid and electric vehicles, with manufacturing set to occur at a plant in Blythewood, South Carolina. Initial production at that facility is targeted for 2027.

The new headquarters is part of Volkswagen’s broader effort to expand Scout Motors’ operations in the United States. North Carolina’s automotive sector has expanded rapidly in the past decade, growing 23% since 2014. Twenty of the world’s top 100 automotive suppliers operate in North Carolina.

The automaker expects its Charlotte headquarters to serve as a hub for corporate operations, innovation, and workforce development, positioning the company for long-term growth and reinforcing North Carolina’s standing in the national automotive industry.
