Rivian rolls out major software update with ‘Launch Mode’ and enhanced features

The feature is accessible via the "Sport" mode in the Drive Modes section of the display screen.
Rivian has begun deploying a significant software update, version 2024.31, for its flagship R1T and R1S electric vehicles (EVs).

Rivian has begun deploying a significant software update, version 2024.31, for its flagship R1T and R1S electric vehicles (EVs). This update introduces several new features and enhancements that improve the overall Rivian ownership experience, with highlights including introducing a new “Launch Mode” feature for the latest tri-motor models.

The “Launch Mode” is specifically designed for the 2025 tri-motor versions of the R1T and R1S and is intended for use on closed circuit tracks with dry road conditions. This mode allows drivers to engage maximum acceleration and achieve higher top speeds, showcasing the vehicle’s impressive 0-60 mph or quarter-mile times. The feature is accessible via the “Sport” mode in the Drive Modes section of the display screen.

In addition to the exciting new “Launch Mode,” Rivian’s latest software update includes several enhancements for first- and second-generation R1 models. Owners of Gen 1 Rivian vehicles, which include the 2022-2024 R1T and R1S, can now customize the color theme of their vehicle’s accent lights, with more options available for personalizing the driving experience.

Other notable improvements in the update include increased accuracy of traffic data, enhanced route color coding, and improved battery performance during aggressive driving at high exterior temperatures. The update also brings more efficient windshield defrost and defog modes, stability improvements for the backup camera view, and enhanced reliability for the Gear Guard app.

Rivian has also made changes to the cabin’s climate control system. The fan speed now has three different options in Auto Mode, and even if the fan speed is adjusted, the system remains in Auto. Additionally, the temperature limit for Pet Mode has been lowered to 63℉, providing better control through the center display or the Rivian app.

As part of its focus on continuous improvement, the EV startup has also added a feature that displays estimated charging costs on both the center and driver displays at the start of a charging session. This update underscores Rivian’s commitment to enhancing the driving experience and maintaining its vehicles at the cutting edge of EV technology.
