  • Lyft will launch a fleet of hundreds of Tensor Robocars in North America and Europe starting in 2027.
  • The vehicles will come equipped with Lyft’s platform and feature AI-driven autonomous systems powered by Nvidia chips.
  • The partnership marks Lyft’s first commitment to owning and operating its own autonomous fleet.

Lyft Inc. announced plans to launch a fleet of hundreds of autonomous vehicles through a new partnership with Tensor Auto Inc., with deployments set to begin across North America and Europe in 2027. The collaboration marks a significant step in Lyft’s strategy to expand its presence in the autonomous ride-hailing market.

As part of the agreement, all Tensor vehicles, known as Robocars, will come equipped with Lyft’s rideshare platform pre-installed. This integration will allow both fleet owners and individual vehicle operators to earn income on the Lyft network in markets where level 4 autonomous driving is permitted. The company has already reserved hundreds of Robocars through its affiliates for its own operations, pending regulatory approvals.

The Robocars, slated for first deliveries in late 2026, are equipped with more than 100 onboard sensors—including cameras, lidars, and radars—and use artificial intelligence powered by Nvidia chips to process driving data. The system is designed to operate autonomously under most driving conditions.

The financial details of the partnership were not disclosed, and the companies have yet to identify the specific cities where the program will begin. However, the move represents Lyft’s first commitment to purchasing and operating its own autonomous fleet, distinguishing it from previous partnerships focused primarily on app integration and fleet management support.

Lyft is working to close the gap with rival Uber Technologies Inc., which has established more than a dozen global partnerships with autonomous vehicle developers. Lyft recently began offering limited self-driving rides with safety drivers in Atlanta through a collaboration with May Mobility and plans to expand similar pilot programs next year, including a partnership with Waymo in Nashville.
