Lucid lands $300M Uber deal to power robotaxi revolution

Lucid sealed a $300 million investment from Uber Technologies, a deal propelling both companies into the future of autonomous ride-hailing

Lucid Group has sealed a $300 million investment from Uber Technologies, a landmark deal propelling both companies into the future of autonomous ride-hailing. Finalized after its July announcement, this partnership merges Lucid’s cutting-edge electric vehicle technology with Uber’s global ride-hailing dominance, setting the stage for a premium robotaxi program.

The initiative centers on a next-generation robotaxi built on Lucid’s Gravity SUV platform, featuring long-range capabilities, redundant safety systems, and scalability for fleet use. Equipped with Nuro’s Level 4 autonomy system, these vehicles will offer fully driverless rides and are slated to begin production at Lucid’s Arizona plant for a U.S. city launch late next year. Uber plans to roll out over 20,000 Lucid robotaxis across its network within six years.

“This investment validates Lucid’s unmatched technology,” said Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff. “It opens doors to further partnerships leveraging our platform.” For Uber, the deal secures a premium, scalable robotaxi solution, strengthening its edge against competitors like Waymo, Lyft, and Tesla in the race for autonomous mobility.

For Lucid, the partnership brings vital funding and a path to scale, addressing recent struggles with production and market expansion. By pairing Lucid’s EV expertise with Uber’s vast customer base and fleet management, this collaboration could redefine ride-hailing with a focus on safety, comfort, and reliability.

The implications are massive. A successful rollout could mainstream EVs and autonomous ride-hailing, reshaping how automakers and mobility platforms collaborate. As development accelerates, all eyes are on next year’s debut to see if Lucid and Uber can deliver a game-changer—or face the steep challenges of scaling robotaxis.

This deal marks a pivotal moment in 2025’s EV and mobility landscape, signaling a bold shift in how we’ll navigate the roads ahead.
