Lucid Motors confirmed it will launch a third midsize electric vehicle, based on the Gravity X concept, priced around $50,000 and designed to compete with the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. The announcement marks the company’s continued push into the mass-market EV segment with a new platform intended to lower costs and broaden its lineup.

The Gravity X concept SUV features off-road enhancements, including lifted suspension, all-terrain tires, tow hooks, a widened stance, and a roof rack system with built-in LED lighting. Inside, the vehicle includes premium leather seats, high-performance floor mats, and a microsuede steering wheel, blending rugged functionality with luxury touches. Production of the midsize SUV is expected to begin in early 2027, followed shortly by a midsize sedan.

Lucid has secured funding to support operations through the second half of next year, with plans first to ramp up production of the standard midsize SUV before the full platform is deployed. The company is also considering offering the midsize platform for fleet use, including its Gravity robotaxis, through a partnership with Uber.

The rugged midsize SUV is expected to compete with Rivian’s R2 and R3 models, Jeep Recon, Scout Terra, and other upcoming EVs in the same market. Lucid’s move reflects a broader strategy to expand into more affordable EVs, following the success of the Lucid Air, which launched at $169,000 in 2021 and is now available for under $70,000.

The third midsize EV continues Lucid’s effort to drive down costs with new battery, powertrain, and advanced EV technologies, making electric vehicles more accessible while positioning the company against major competitors in the rapidly growing EV market.
