On the Dash:
- Hyundai and Shell extend their partnership through 2031, building on 20+ years together
- New agreement expands EV fluid and coolant R&D alongside service marketing efforts
- Shell deepens motorsports ties with Genesis Magma Racing and Hyundai N Division
Hyundai Motor Company has extended its strategic partnership with Shell Lubricants through 2031, renewing a relationship that dates back to 2005.
The renewed five-year Global Business Cooperation Agreement expands the companies’ joint work in research and development, service marketing and motorsports. Both companies framed the extension as a response to shifts in the mobility market, including the growth of EVs.
Hyundai and Shell will continue joint service marketing programs designed to improve customer satisfaction across Hyundai’s global dealer network. The agreement also expands R&D between the two companies, with a focus on improving engine oil quality and developing fluids and coolants for electric vehicles.
Additionally, the partnership broadens Shell’s role with Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, in motorsports and high-performance vehicle development. Moreover, Shell is serving as a performance and innovation partner to Genesis Magma Racing during the team’s first season in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2026, supplying lubricants and coolants for the GMR-001 Hypercar.
Shell co-engineers lubricants with Hyundai’s N performance division, developing products for high-performance combustion engines and electric vehicles. The motorsports work gives Shell a testing ground for new products ahead of consumer release.
The partnership extension comes months after Hyundai posted record July sales, its best recorded month in company history. Notably, the automaker sold 82,480 vehicles, up 4% year over year. Hyundai’s year-to-date sales reached 533,048 vehicles, up 3% from the same period last year. The Tucson led the growth, posting its best-ever July with sales climbing 20% year over year, as strength across the brand’s SUV lineup reinforced Hyundai’s mix of cars, SUVs and electrified vehicles.
The sales momentum aligns with the R&D priorities outlined in the Shell agreement, particularly the shared focus on fluids and coolants for electric and hybrid vehicles as Hyundai’s electrified lineup continues to expand.
