“This will be the year of consumers saying, ‘I want more vehicle.'” That’s a quote from Jonathan Smoke, Chief Economist for Cox Automotive, on a panel discussion at an event in Detroit a few weeks ago. WardsAuto reports that Smoke believes that consumers will buy fewer vehicles, but “more vehicle,” and right now, that vehicle seems to be the truck. At that same event, Smoke said, “the future will be a truck story, as they continue to outperform on price and profits.” He added, “Luxury is not for everyone, but it is the centerpiece for every successful (major) OEM.” Read More
