One of the largest car dealership groups in the United States, Group 1 Automotive, has taken a significant step towards sustainability by completing the installation of 10,000 solar panels across multiple dealership locations.

Freedom Solar Power, headquartered in Austin, Texas, specializes in collaborating directly with leading automakers, including Toyota, Ford, Volkswagen, Volvo, Audi, and Hyundai/Genesis.

Their mission is to facilitate the installation of rooftop solar solutions for franchised dealerships.

In this latest venture, Freedom Solar Power partnered with Group 1 Automotive to install the extensive array of solar panels.

Energy costs represent a substantial operational expense for car dealerships, given their extended operating hours and energy-intensive showrooms and lots. Many car dealerships are turning to rooftop solar installations to combat these expenses while reducing their carbon footprint. These installations not only help offset high energy consumption but also ensure a reliable source of electricity.

While the exact locations of the 10,000 solar panels installed by Group 1 Automotive were not disclosed, the company has expressed its commitment to expanding its solar initiatives. Group 1 Automotive aims to complete solar installations at 25 dealerships by the conclusion of 2024, aligning with its broader sustainability goals and the growing trend of renewable energy adoption within the automotive industry.
