In my CBT News interview with Jim Fitzpatrick, I wanted to move the AI conversation beyond buzzwords. Dealers are hearing a lot about AI right now, but the real issue is not whether AI can answer a shopper’s question. The bigger question is whether your dealership can complete the transaction when a buyer – or the buyer’s AI assistant – is ready to move forward.
AI shopping is already here. Consumers are using tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Meta AI to research vehicles, compare models, estimate payments and narrow their options before they ever contact a store. But AI buying is the bigger shift. That is when AI does not just help the customer research. It helps the customer take action.
That action may include finding the right vehicle, comparing the right deal, structuring the payment, evaluating the trade, moving through financing and deciding where the transaction should happen. When that moment arrives, the dealership with the least friction has the advantage.
That is why I believe every dealer should watch my conversation with Jim Fitzpatrick. In the interview, we talk about a very practical risk: if an AI-assisted buyer compares your website against the dealer across town tonight, will your dealership be selected – or skipped?
Most dealer websites are still designed to capture leads. They let buyers browse inventory, submit a form, maybe calculate a payment and wait for follow-up. But a lead form is not a transaction channel. If a customer is ready to move forward and your website says, “call us tomorrow,” that customer may not wait.
Dealers do not lose deals only to competitors. They lose them to convenience.
CarJiffy was built to close that capability gap. We help turn a dealership website into a true 24/7 sales channel where buyers can structure payments, manage trade-ins, apply for credit, select F&I products, e-sign, leave deposits and schedule pickup or delivery – all under the dealer’s own brand.
That matters even more in an AI-assisted buying future because AI needs a place to execute. It cannot complete a transaction through a disconnected lead form. It needs a structured, connected and actionable buying path. CarJiffy gives dealers that transaction layer on their own website, connected to their own sales process.
The ownership piece is critical. Whoever owns the transaction owns the customer relationship, the data, the brand experience, the margin opportunity and the handoff to sales, F&I, delivery and service. If AI buying evolves through third-party marketplaces, dealers risk becoming fulfillment points instead of relationship owners.
This is not about replacing the salesperson. AI will not replace the best parts of the dealership: trust, relationship, delivery, service and human confidence. But AI will replace friction. It will replace slow handoffs, disconnected forms, repeated questions and unnecessary waiting.
History gives us the warning. Blockbuster saw streaming. Kodak saw digital photography. Traditional taxi services saw ride-sharing. They were not unaware. They moved too slowly. Dealers do not need to abandon what makes them successful, but they do need to make sure they can compete in the way customers increasingly want to buy.
After watching the interview, I would encourage every dealer to test their own website through the eyes of an AI-assisted buyer. Can the customer move beyond shopping? Can they structure a deal, value a trade, apply for credit, select F&I, e-sign, leave a deposit and schedule delivery or pickup? Or do they hit a form and wait?
To make it easier for dealers to start, CarJiffy is offering a 60-day on-us platform use incentive with no cost, no strings attached and no long-term commitment. Put CarJiffy on your website, let real buyers experience a true digital transaction path and let your sales team see the quality of opportunities it creates.
The future is not about generating more leads. It is about converting more buyers. To watch the full CBTNews interview with Jim Fitzpatrick or discuss whether your dealership is ready for AI-assisted buying, contact me at gngwai@carjiffy.com or (647) 631-4488.
