Subaru joins Ford in raising prices as tariffs squeeze automakers

New vehicle prices will rise by up to $2,000 in June, with dealers citing tariffs—even as Subaru avoids naming them directly.

Subaru is raising prices across much of its lineup beginning in June, with some models increasing by more than $2,000, as automakers feel mounting pressure from tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.

Massachusetts-based dealer Planet Subaru disclosed the upcoming hikes, which vary by model and trim. The largest increase affects the American-made Ascent SUV, with prices rising between $1,085 and $2,055. The Forester will go up by $1,075 to $1,600, while the outgoing Outback will climb by up to $1,820.

Japanese-built models are also affected. The BRZ and WRX will each see a $2,000 jump, while the Legacy sedan rises $1,600. Price hikes of $750 are planned for the Crosstrek and Impreza. The all-electric Solterra is the only model expected to avoid a price increase.

While Subaru has not directly linked the pricing changes to tariffs, Planet Subaru noted that the increases are insufficient to fully offset tariff-related costs and warned of additional hikes before the end of 2025.

Ford, which manufactures the Maverick, Bronco Sport, and Mustang Mach-E in Mexico, recently raised prices on those models, citing both mid-year adjustments and tariff impacts.

Subaru appears cautious about directly acknowledging the role of tariffs—possibly to avoid political fallout. President Donald Trump has recently criticized companies like Walmart for attributing price increases to tariffs, urging them instead to absorb the added costs.

Vehicle prices are expected to remain volatile as automakers reassess expenses amid ongoing tariff uncertainty and broader market pressures.
