ChargePoint introduces AI to improve EV charger reliability with new diagnostic tool

The company's CEO, Rick Wilmer,, emphasized the importance of this technology in maintaining a reliable charging network.
ChargePoint has announced the integration of AI into its EV charging network to expedite the diagnosis and repair of faulty charging stations

ChargePoint has announced the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into its EV charging network to expedite the diagnosis and repair of faulty charging stations. This new AI-powered driver support tool, described as the first of its kind in the EV charging industry, aims to enhance charger uptime and network reliability—critical factors for accelerating EV adoption.

Additionally, ChargePoint, which recently surpassed one million global charging ports, has expanded its infrastructure and implemented innovative solutions to address common charging issues. The latest AI-driven initiative will allow EV drivers to report nonfunctional chargers through an updated “report a problem” feature in the ChargePoint app. Users can submit photos of the faulty station, which the AI software will analyze for anomalies. The results are then sent to ChargePoint’s Network Operations Center, enabling a swift response that often eliminates the need for on-site inspections, thereby reducing charger downtime.

Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, emphasized the importance of this technology in maintaining a reliable charging network. He noted that the AI tool significantly enhances the company’s ability to quickly diagnose and address hardware issues that cannot be detected through remote monitoring alone. This innovation underscores ChargePoint’s commitment to providing dependable charging infrastructure, a key element in supporting the growing number of EVs on the road.

In addition to reporting issues, drivers will be able to track the status of repairs in real-time via the ChargePoint app, further streamlining the process. This AI integration represents a significant step forward in improving the overall reliability of public EV charging networks, which is essential for wider EV adoption.
