Toyota faces legal action for falsifying engine emissions testing

Toyota Industries may lose certification for an excavator engine.
Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda expects EV market share to reach a total of 30% "no matter how much progress BEVs make." Engine

A Nikkei article reported on February 19 disclosed that Japan’s transport ministry is preparing to take legal action against a Toyota Motor affiliate for falsifying engine emissions testing. This legal action could result in the revocation of certification for specific engine types.

The article stated that the government will provide Toyota Industries, the world’s largest forklift truck manufacturer, with instructions on how to prevent a “recurrence of the misconduct.”

According to the report, Toyota Industries, which manufactures vehicles, textiles, and electronics, may lose certification for an excavator engine.

The Ministry of Transport is also considering similar action with two other forklift engine models. The severity of the misconduct will be evaluated before deciding whether to take similar action with engines used in Land Cruiser vehicles and HiAce vans.

In January, Toyota informed the ministry of its misconduct, acknowledging that data from performance tests for various forklift and car engine models had been tampered with.
