Two of Volkswagen’s premium brands, Porsche and Audi, are issuing recalls for versions of their 2023 EVs, including the Taycan and e-tron GT. Due to a lack of battery sealant, nearly 7,000 EVs have been affected because it could allow liquid to seep through and cause a fire. Although there haven’t been any reported fires, the manufacturers are nonetheless issuing recalls out of a sense of caution.
Both Porsche and Audi learned of a potential problem concerning insulation resistance ratings in some 2023 models last year. In several cases, liquid was found inside the battery.
Additionally, the two automakers received reports of decreased insulating resistance in electric vehicles with sealant from the supplier Teroson between March and August. However, Teroson unveiled an improved sealant in May. Since then, there haven’t been any more reports.
Porsche and Audi are recalling vehicles equipped with the original Teroson sealant out of an abundance of caution. The electric models being recalled include the 2023:

- Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo
- Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo
- Porsche Taycan GTS
- Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo
- Porsche Taycan Turbo
- Porsche Taycan Turbo S
- Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo
- Audi e-tron GT
- Audi RS e-tron GT
Dealers for Porsche and Audi will inspect the cars to check for battery leaks. If the test fails, the battery will be replaced free of charge.
In addition to 4,777 Porsche vehicles, the recall affects 1,899 Audi models. On October 31, 2023, owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed.
